Today is a most joyous occasion, as TemTem, the Pokemon like RPG finally hits early access.

It's just been just a couple of months since receiving my key for TemTem. A game which promised to finally give Pokemon fans the opportunity to play a similar game on the PC. The game officially launched in early access on Steam, but is the game any good?

The initial part is exactly like any other Pokemon game. You start in your little one bedroom home and are given some useless advice by your over protective mother, who mind you... is still ready to let her 14 year old child venture into a world riddled in criminal activities.

You visit the Greek version of Professor Oak called Konstantinos, who introduces you to the world of TemTem, and demands you choose from the 3 initial TemTem.

  • Smazee - a Melee type
  • Crystle - a Crystal type
  • Houchic - a Mental type

The developers did mention that as you progress, you will be able to get the other 2 TemTem, and as the game stands you can in fact find Crystle... so we do suggest you pick any of the other 2 TemTems.

Once you choose your TemTem, you can finally begin your adventure. Adventuring is pretty much your standard walk through towns and walk through overgrown routes filled with wild TemTem. As you progress through the story line, the routes get harder and require more powerful and well trained TemTems. Battle through Dojos and advance to the different Islands that make up the Airborne Archipelago. Each island has their own unique TemTems for you to catch.

But is there anything that can really make this stand out from a regular Pokemon game? Well, the simple answer would simply be the battle system. You see TemTems have stats and different abilities depending on these stats. You may have a TemTem which has stronger defenses against water whilst the same TemTem with different traits may be better off fighting lightning types. You also have combos, which allow 2 TemTems to boost each others attacks. The fact that there is some form of strategy besides matching types, makes each battle way more interesting and fun.

The game still has a long way to go, and the recent introduction of Co-op battles is kind of broken, but again this is still early access. You are still able to get the game now on Steam, and therefore support Crema studios through the development of what promises to be a, a great game.

Check out the official launch trailer. It just may tantalize your taste buds.
